Event Details: From Bach to the Beatles

This eclectic program, sung by all 24 voices of the Chorale, will include J.S. Bach’s Motet No. 1: Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied (Sing to the Lord a new song), the second installment of the Bach Motet Project; the world premiere of Bradley Ellingboe’s setting of Gerard Manley Hopkins’ poem Pied Beauty; two movements from Vespers, by the Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara (as a contrasting prelude to Rachmaninoff ’s Vespers, which concludes the season); and a lighter group of works, including Craig Hella Johnson’s arrangement of Dolly Parton’s Light of a Clear Blue Morning, a selection of South African freedom songs and a medley of songs by the Beatles, one of the most artistically acclaimed groups in the history of popular music.
